In today's post, we will be looking at a few keys that goes well with Anne. For those that do not know much about Anne, we will give an introduction of her.
Anne is a primarily green LRIG with white as a secondary color. Contrary to how green is often associated with aggression, Anne is a very defensive LRIG, boarding solid SIGNI with high survivability to prevent opponent from breaking through her SIGNI wall and dealing damage to her.
Often referred to as the "Holy Trinity of Cancer" |
The optimal field for Anne always consist of a Contempora to shield all her SIGNIs from LRIG and SIGNI responses while having Mouth go along with Suiboku or Graffi to trigger Mouth's 2nd Constant. Given the current rise of Key effect defense, Contempora has become even more dangerous for the opponent as it denies them of 1 of their core response completely.
There are currently 2 optimal level 4 LRIG that Anne can use. The first one being my favorite Eradicator Anne. Although being an old LRIG, she has to pay the hefty 3 ener grow cost, it comes with 2 very strong Auto effects.
The first one allowing her to easily open a SIGNI zone for free as long as you have a white and green Beautiful Technique SIGNI on field (Your ideal field Mouth and Contempora would already account for the condition)
The second, allowing her to ener charge whenever a Beautiful Technique SIGNI is banished. This not only funds ener for cards like Suiboku's 1st Auto effect when it is triggered, but can be combo with Extravaganza and Rebirth to build Anne's ener while resetting her field.
She also comes with an attack phase effect that lets you stop your opponent's whole board while opening 3 SIGNI zone for your next turn, a very good turnaround effect for Anne. This effect is also often used while Anne is low on ener/hand to preserve her field, buying her time to recover.
However with the rise of LRIG immunity SIGNIs, the 3 ener grow cost puts Anne at a disadvantage as these LRIG immunity SIGNI do not give Anne any free turn to recover her resource from the expensive grow cost, preventing Anne from gaining back tempo and eventually defeating her.
Hence Colorful Anne is used instead. With 0 grow cost and an 1per turn effect that enercharge 2, Anne would not lose tempo while growing to 4 and instead gain a slight boost in ener to pay for the many expensive cost of Beautiful Technique effects.
Her 1per turn auto effect is also useful as it helps in ensuring that SIGNI zone can easily be opened as long as you have Graffi, helping with the consistency of the deck in case the ideal field could not be set up.
Since she does not have any effect that uses her exceed, the number of keys she can use effectively increases.
One thing about Anne is that there are quite a number of keys she can play, we will look at some of them here.
Layla Key
Layla Key is pretty good to compliment with Anne. Given how horrible Beautiful Technique SIGNIs are at generating resources consistently, both hand and ener disruption may just put Anne in a bad spot.
Many of Anne card effects also have really steep cost, cards like Suiboku or Beautiful Chisel, having Layla Key helps to ensure that you would not lose resources to your opponent's effect easily, allowing you to safely pay the cost and defend yourself.
Tawil Key
One of the few keys that compliments well with Anne. Tawil Key's exceed 2 can be used to call out Mouth to trigger her Constant effect bounce, since it isn't an on-play.
That isn't the only reason that makes Tawil Key strong in Anne. If one manages to maintain Mouth on field, they can instead call Modern out to combo with Mouth. Once Mouth bounce effect is activated, Modern's auto can be triggered, clearing 2 SIGNI zones and potentially stopping a third one by blocking the attack with herself. Making the exceed 2 cost of the key very efficient.
Carnival Key
Although not seen much, Carnival Key can be played with Anne as well. Her on play easily retrieves 2 Level 4s which can help you dig out key pieces like Contempora and Graffi and ensure you can board out your ideal field consistently. It can be even used to grab 1 copy cards like Cosmouse or Subculs.
Her exceed 1 can help you to also change your board easily to suit your needs for the battle. Maybe switching to Suiboku to prevent losing SIGNI from banish? Or switching to Contempora in case your field doesn't have one?
With all that said, it is not often seen as most of the time, players will open ARTS to clear your field, leaving you with no chance to even swap with Carnival Key's exceed effect. However if you know that your meta well enough, you may be able to get away with playing this key.
Conclusion
There are definitely more keys that Anne can use than covered here. Maybe Ril Key where you can try to get an extra Beautiful Technique SIGNI into hand? Or Dona Key where you can give one of your Beautiful Technique SIGNI banish immunity while skipping your opponent's SIGNI/LRIG phase?
Personally my favorite key for Anne would be Layla Key. As someone who played against countless Piruluk and Yuzuki, I really hate the idea of my hand and ener being destroyed.
What's your favorite key to go with Anne? With that, see you next time~
